1 Dec - Yulia Kovas: Nature, Nurture, Chance and Development

https://streamyard.com/b3tgrc6xfk

We will talk about how DNA, upbringing and chance events shape our children’s development. I will describe findings from several large-scale studies of children, including twins, with families participating from birth of their children and over many years.  These studies have provided a wealth of information - dispelling common myths and informing parenting and education.

8 Dec - Sinead Rocha: Music at Home

https://streamyard.com/b3tgrc6xfk

We often use music when we’re interacting with our babies and children, whether we are singing nursery rhymes, dancing along to the radio, or rocking our little ones to sleep. We will talk about how music can hit a ‘sensory sweet spot’ for our little ones, and how everyday musical activities can reflect and scaffold early development.

15 Dec - Teresa Facchetti: What does science tell us about attachment?

https://streamyard.com/ti247sbj9z

The development of a secure attachment style in childhood is fundamental as it lays the foundation for emotional regulation, trust, communication skills and resilience, all of which play a key role in nurturing positive and lasting relationships throughout life. In this webinar we will explore the findings of scientific research and Polyvagal Theory to gain a deeper understanding of childhood attachment. We will also explore practical strategies for nurturing secure attachment in children.

2 Feb - Evelyne Mercure: Parenting in diverse situations: Lessons learned from deaf mothers

https://streamyard.com/b3tgrc6xfk

Hearing children of deaf mothers are fascinating because of their unique language experience. These children are likely to grow up learning both a signed and a spoken language (for example British Sign Language and English). Still prevalent prejudice suggest that they may be at risk of language learning difficulties. However, my recent research not only show that they acquire language successfully, but that they are also doing better than children of hearing parents on some aspects of communicative development in infancy and childhood. This presentation will reflect on the diversity of parenting situations and how children can thrive in various environments.
